What's a healthy aquarium reading?
For a reef tank aim for pH 8.1–8.4, ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate 1–10 ppm. For a tropical freshwater tank aim for pH 6.8–7.6, ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrate under 40 ppm. Anything outside these ranges usually means a water change or filter check is overdue.
